The \u2018mukh\u2019 means line running from the upper to the lower part of the bead. An expert can recognize genuine lines just by sight. The lines are usually on the mountain portion of the Rudraksha and not on the valley. Nature has provided a unique property to these beads whereby it has been found that the number of mukhis on a bead is equivalent to the number of corresponding compartments, confirmed when using X ray equipment for detection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are several myths surrounding the testing of rudraksha beads for genuineness. For example, it is said that if a Rudraksha bead is placed between two copper coins, then the bead should rotate. This is incorrect, as any round object having multiple protrusions will rotate between two coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some advocate that rudraksha beads should sink in water. But this is also incorrect as even an unripe but genuine rudraksha bead may float in the water, and a fake one made out of wood\/berry may sink. The density of a seed depends on its maturity.
