Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Purnima in Shukla Paksha of the Chaitra month according to Vedic calendar. Lord Hanuman is epitome of courage, fearlessness, Bravery, knowledge, cleverness and devotion. Being the disciple of Lord Surya, he mastered the knowledge of Vedas and various the Shastras at a very young age; due to this mastery of the Shastras he is also addressed as “Jnaninaam Agraganaya” (foremost amongst the wise). His devotion to Lord Ram is unparalleled and he is praised as “Raghupati Priya Bhaktam”. It is said that Lord Hanuman is present wherever the name of Lord Ram is chanted with devotion, with his head bowed down in veneration and eyes filled with tears of devotion and whose very presence destroys evil forces creating disturbance viz;

यत्र-यत्र रघुनाथकीर्तनं तत्र-तत्र कृतमस्तकाञ्जलिम्।
बाष्पवारिपरिपूर्णलोचनं मारुतिं नमत राक्षसान्तकम् ||
