Vasant or Basant Panchami is also known as Saraswati Puja, dedicated to Devi Saraswati. The word Vasant in Sanskrit means spring, as this festival marks the beginning of the spring season. It is celebrated on the 5th day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Maagh (January / February). This day is also known as Shree Panchami or Saraswati Panchami.

Saraswati is the supreme repository of all learning. She is the Goddess of speech, also called Vak in Sanskrit, meaning the flowing one. She represents the union of power and intelligence from which the entire creation arises. She is the Goddess of the Vedas, scriptures, dancing, music and poetry.

One can chant the Mantra ॐ ऎं सरस्वत्यै नमः (Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah), to excel in arts, music, dance and sciences. Saraswati is the bestower of knowledge, wisdom, intelligence and memory. She confers reasoning and discriminatory faculties to her devotees. Especially school going children can chant this Mantra without any elaborate ritual for excellence in academics and performing arts. Devi Saraswati blesses her devotee with profound perception & cognition, deep insight, power of concentration.
