What Is Shravan?

Shravan, also known as Sawan, is a month in the Hindu lunar calendar dedicated to the worship of Mahadev Shiva. The month derives its name from the Nakshatra (star) Shravan, which is believed to be Lord Vishnu’s abode. Shiv Purana states:

“श्रावणे मासि राजेन्द्र सर्वपापहरा गतिः |
श्रावणे शिवपूजा च सर्वपापविमोक्षणम् ||”

Meaning: “O king, the month of Shravan is the destroyer of all sins. Worshipping Lord Shiva during this time grants liberation from all sins.”

Step-by-Step Guide for the SHRAVAN SOMVAAR Rituals:

Preparation:

  • Clean your home and create a sacred space for worship.
  • Gather puja items: Flowers, Bilva (Bel) leaves, Milk, Honey, Fruits, and Rudraksha beads.

Morning Rituals:

  • Wake up early and take a bath to purify yourself.
  • Perform a small puja at home, offering water, flowers, and Bel leaves to the Shiva Lingam.
  • Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” and meditate for a few minutes.

Fasting:

  • Shravan what to eat?’
  • On Mondays, observe a fast from dawn to dusk. You can choose to abstain from food and water or consume only fruits and milk.

Evening Rituals:

What to Do?
