Birth of Pavan Putra Hanuman
Hanuman’s birth is magical! He is the son of Anjana, an incarnation of a celestial nymph (apsara) who was cursed to be born as a monkey by a sage, and Kesari (a mighty vanara king). But he’s also called Pavan Putra (son of the wind god, Vayu). It is said that Anjana prayed to Lord Shiva for a child. Pleased, Shiva granted her a son blessed with divine powers. When Vayu carried Shiva’s blessing to Anjana, Hanuman was born. As a child, he once mistook the sun for a fruit and flew to grab it, showing his incredible curiosity and strength!
Symbol of Strength, Devotion & Loyalty
Hanuman is looked upon as a symbol of strength, devotion, and loyalty. His incredible achievements, as depicted in the Ramayana, showcase his extraordinary abilities. He possessed the strength to lift mountains, like the Sanjeevani herb, to save Lakshman’s life and could leap across oceans. His devotion to Lord Rama is legendary, illustrated by his willingness to tear open his chest to reveal Rama and Sita in his heart. Hanuman’s loyalty to Rama was steady, as he fearlessly served him even in the most challenging times, such as battling Ravana in Lanka.
Hanuman’s Role in Ramayana
In the Ramayana, Hanuman played a vital role. He discovered Sita in Lanka, gave her Rama’s ring, and set fire to the city with his burning tail. He also flew to the Himalayas to bring a life-saving herb (sanjeevini booti), which is believed to still exist in the Himalayan regions, to heal Lakshman and fought bravely against Ravana’s army.
Amazing Facts About Hanuman
Some fascinating facts about Hanuman include his status as one of the Chiranjivis (immortals), his mastery of the Vedas, and his humanity despite possessing incredible powers.
